About National Payroll Week

What is National Payroll Week?

Founded in 1996 by PayrollOrg, (formerly the American Payroll Association) National Payroll Week (NPW) returns September 7–11, 2026, during the week of Labor Day. It celebrates the connection between America’s workers, payroll professionals, and the systems that keep pay moving accurately and on time.

At the center of this year’s campaign is the ripple effect. Every paycheck sets something in motion. It helps cover daily needs, supports long-term goals, and fuels broader economic activity. NPW brings that impact to life by helping employees better understand their pay, from deductions to take-home earnings, so they can make more informed financial decisions.

Through the Money Matters program, sponsored by Chime Workplace, volunteers across the country extend that ripple even further, teaching “paychecks 101” to teens and giving the next generation a stronger foundation in financial literacy.

Every Paycheck Creates a Possibility

The ripple effect doesn’t stop at the individual level. What starts as a paycheck reaches far beyond it. Payroll professionals play a critical role in collecting, reporting, and distributing the funds that support essential government programs. Through the payroll withholding system, they help fund Social Security, Medicare, national defense, infrastructure, and more. In fact, payroll-related collections account for about 66% of the U.S. Treasury’s annual revenue.

That’s why NPW is more than a celebration of payday. It’s a recognition of how every paycheck moves through the system and contributes to something bigger, keeping the country running and communities supported.
